Just a few years ago I used to pay about $74/Month for a gym membership that I didn’t even thoroughly exhaust due to my busy schedule. That’s a whopping $888/Year!

I canceled my gym membership for good and instead focused on working out in the safety of my home for cheap. My current simple home gym equipment includes a Crosstrainer Elliptical bike which I got as a birthday gift from my husband many years ago (it had been on my wishlist for a while), some dumbbells for my arm and shoulder workouts and a yoga mat for when I need to stretch or meditate. These tools meet most, if not all of my exercise needs.

I also invested in a Fitbit Alta (a year after I had gifted my husband with a Fitbit Surge as a Christmas present) which helps me keep track of my water intake, calories burned and counts my steps too. The Fitbit Alta is also able to recognize which workout activities you are doing.  It will, for example, pick up on your aerobics workout session and store your workout data including information such as exercise duration and the number of calories you burned.

My simple work equipment has lasted me years, and I continue to reap the benefits, and I save money. Moreover,  if I’m too busy to workout or just don’t feel like working out, I don’t lose any money. Now if that’s not a bargain, then I don’t know what is!

Without further ado, here’s a list that you can use to help you create a home gym on a tight budget.

5. Jumping Rope

I’ve added jumping rope to the list. Jumping rope is a cheap way to work out for cheap. Did you know that you can burn over 135 calories just by jumping rope for about 10 minutes? That’s an unbelievable 270 calories in a 20 minutes session!
